The Color Of Sunshine

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

My favorite color is yellow and I have loved yellow as far back as I can remember.  Yellow, the color of sunshine, is much needed and being a  Michigander I have to create my own sunshine!

The challenge is to find the perfect shade of yellow which can make all the difference in the world.  My experience with yellow is that yellow paint colors tend to be blinding…you step into the room and need your shades.  The key to the perfect yellow, is a bit of brown to tone down the clarity and intensity.  The perfect color to me is Creme from Pratt & Lambert.  This color is a rich toned down version of sophisticated yellow.

I am always looking for colorful and interesting lighting!  I stumbled upon Seascape Lamps and immediately, the lighting caught my eye.  Seascape Lamps is a California-based studio that does almost all their own manufacturing.  What makes this special ???… Well, it allows any customized requests that you as a customer might have.

New and special favorites to jazz up your interior are:

The Bernadette Pendant above is a vintage inspired hanging light pendant.  The classic black and cream chandelier has a custom design fabric that would be a focal point above a dining room table, a kitchen island or really anywhere you want to make a statement.

The Alta pendant is new for 2009 and so far it is a hit!  You can order this pendant in three different sizes, 16″x9″ 18″x10″ or 20″x11″ and the stem may be custom ordered to suit your height needs. What is unique about this pendant is you may choose any material of your choice at no additional charge.  Love that!

Luther Orange and Lime Silk is also new for 2009.  The two tiered drums can be made to your specifications in oval, square, or any round shape.  Numerous fabric selections can make this light a show stopper in your house, restaurant, hospitality or even retail store applications.

Do-It-Yourself

American Frame is Do-It-Yourself framing. Framing a painting or print can be costly and this site is an alternative to custom framing. They offer:

  • Custom-cut Picture Frames, Mat Board and Framing Supplies at Wholesale Prices
  • Hundreds of Metal and Solid Wood Frames
  • Orders ship in 2-3 days
  • FREE Assembly on Wood Frames
  • FREE cut Crescent® Mat with every frame.

I stumbled across this site when I wanted to frame an oil painting of mine. Framing prices were at approximately $300.00 for a 30 by 40 painting. Do-It-Yourself framing should cut the cost…..and it did!

What is unique about American Frame is you can see the selected frame with the artwork (even browsing your photos) and also select a wall color for the backdrop. Visualizing sometimes is a hard task and this eliminates any doubt on the perfect frame and mat for your picture. I love this idea!!!

American Frame cuts your mat and frame to your specifications. Then ships the cut pieces and assembly takes place at home. I saved close to $225.00 with this Do-It-Yourself process. American Frame’s step-by-step process makes for an economical and easy result.
