Seasonal Decorating

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Autumn is here!  Inspired seasonal decorating is a fun way to bring in the season.  Just changing out pillows and table accessories can harvest up your home.  Spice up your room with autumn items from Pottery Barn.  A quick, affordable fix!

Fun fall nesting ideas from theinspiredroom.net.  My favorite tip is pull in the furniture…..it’s time to get cozy!  Well said…thanks for the tip.  Never understood lining the furniture up around the walls.  Pulling in the furniture creates a warm and inviting room much needed for the crisp autumn air.

Fall ideas can offer an autumn change to any room in your house…..even the bedroom. Falling Leaves Organic Duvet from Pottery Barn updates for this very season.

Good Luck in your autumn findings!

Take A “Color” Field Trip

Take a color field trip to the outdoors. This is a great place to get inspiration. Take note of how nature puts colors together. Really zoom in and see how many colors are in one small area. This is what we can do with are living spaces as well. Look at a sunset, walk a mountain side, or just simply visit your very own backyard. I would encourage taking your camera and snapping a shot. This will give you a starting point for paint color and lead you to other components of the room such as fabric colors and furniture wood samples.

Green….Neutral With Color!

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Paint color seems to be a hard decision.  Sometimes, neutral seems too boring and you are thinking…. something with a little more color.  Try green! It is also a neutral.  Green is one of those colors that is easy to live with.  I find more and more customers are happy with a shade of green on their interior walls.  Males and females tend to adjust well with green inside.  I think because the color reflects the outside…… bringing nature into our homes.

This Urban Country Kitchen and Dining Room pictured below is featured on an episode of Debbie Travis Painted-House

The unique checkerboard pattern with green paint gives a whimsical touch to the country kitchen.  The environment is warm and inviting.  I can just see Thanksgiving Dinner around the table!

Osborne & Little uses cream walls to offset fabulous green panels accompanied by a brown sofa. Think about fabrics in shades of green, instead of painting your walls.  The combo of brown and green makes for an elegant and current room.  See other roomsets and inspiration to create ideas for your room palette.

The Perfect Match or The Perfect Color

Friday, September 12th, 2008

I suppose a pet peeve of mine is when customers tell me “that doesn’t match”.  Maybe it doesn’t matched exactly, but that is what ideal color selection should accomplish.  Inexperienced customers put their eyes right up close to the fabric and select the only color of green in there.  That is wrong!  You need to take the whole picture into consideration and all the combinations of colors that the fabric gives you.  Do not pick it apart.  It is the blend we are looking for.  Let’s try with the fabric combo from Robert Allen to find the perfect color.

Not ”matching” paint colors to fabric, but finding the perfect “in-between” color………..is the right way to go!  I always use nature as an example.  It is a blend of colors and different shades, nothing is a perfect match……..but perfection is accomplished.  Picking the ”in-between” color makes the space interesting and not the ordinary.  Here are my paint color selections. The accent wall is a very dark navy blue and a brighter green for the rest of the walls (View actual paint chips at Benjamin Moore Store for true color).  I would select a super white for the trim and ceiling for a fresh look.  This room would have a great preppy-look.

So basically I selected “in-between” colors, a soft green instead of the darker moss green found in the fabric.  Also, for drama, the dark navy wall pulls from the blue/gray colors found in the fabric.

Not a perfect match, but a perfect color!

An Arizona Sunset

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I do not think anyone can deny an Arizona sunset shows spectacular warm-tones that dance in the sky.  Amber shades, honey yellow, and warm brown tones are examples of colors that could light up our interiors making a warm environment to live.  Some example colors to try are Ambitious Amber SW6366, Gold Coast SW6376, and Copper Mountain SW6356 found through sherwin-williams.com.

Kravet Fabrics is a supplier of fabrics and ready-made furnishings for home decoration as well as furniture and trimmings. They have a searchable product database which makes it quick and easy to find coordinating fabrics for a certain color scheme.  Here are some modern fabrics that fit into a warm color palette.

A long time industry friend and Interior Designer out of Tucson, Hapi DuBach sent me photos of her Arizona home.  We worked on the space together to achieve a comfortable and warm interior copying the sunset over the Saddleback Mountains and bringing it into her living room.   A special thank you to Hapi for sharing her photos.

Warm up your space with a bit of sunshine!
