Checkerboarding

Many hours, paint, and blue painter’s tape later Sandi Denhof accomplished a darling furniture piece for her living room.  Black and White checkerboard for the top and red underneath for a peek-a-boo surprise of color.  She admits that this project took much patience and time.  It shows!

I have to admit right when I saw Sandi’s dropleaf table I thought of Mackenzie-Childs which is one of my favorites.  The eclectic style and colorful hand-painted unique pieces are very charming.  Home accessories from Mackenzie-Child could be a fab add to Sandi’s room to pull the whole look together.

A Painted Piece of Art

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

A painted piece of art!  Not only do your walls need color sometimes, but so does your furniture.  I love a special painted piece of furniture to express your personality in a room.  I stumbled upon a great site, Painted Furniture.  They create hand-painted furniture with a charm.  The site includes everything from a small stool to a large armoire.   Here are some fab pieces.

Sometimes it just takes a little elbow grease and some color sense to transform an old piece you currently have to something great.  I think everyone at some point has inherited a dingy wood piece.  These are the best pieces to transform from garage sale to colorfully chic.  Anything with carved detail and curved features could be a diamond in the rough!  See examples from Design*Sponge, below are pieces that got a transformation with fresh paint and added details.  I love the patterned paper and fancy gold rose hardware.  Hardware is a must to any piece!

The new fabric by Joel Dewberry and black paint added to the matching chairs makes for a mod new style.  What a great addition to any room.  Pick up your brush and make a statement using an old furniture piece and bringing it alive.  It is a wonderful way to transform and recycle at the same time!
